Zainab Sham-una’s Experience with the Pagdede Program

Zainab Sham-una’s Experience with the Pagdede Program
July 14, 2025 by developer

Sham-una Zainab is a graduate student from Tamale College of Education (TATCO). She loves her
teaching job but always finds it difficult to communicate with her peers and higher authorities. Zainab wishes to stand out as a teacher, adding creativity to her role as a teacher, yet she had no idea
how to go about her career goals.

She chanced on the Facebook handle of the Assistance Hub where she applied for the Cohort 3 Pagdede Program funded by Plan International’s Women’s Voice (WVL) in Leadership with financial aid from Global Affairs Canada (GAC). After an online and in-person interview, Zainab secured a slot to participate in the training. One day, she was taken through personal branding where she learned how to define her “Image”, and drafted her personal mission and vision, objectives, and goals. After which they learned how to draw and rate the skills wheels.

Zainab left training day one energised for day two. Day two started with a session on practical public speaking. “This session has surprised me a lot. I never knew I could stand in front of people and communicate like this. The session on personal branding makes me feel unique, and that has raised my confidence level.” Zainab. She also learned how to stay safe on the internet.

According to Zainab, she thought the internet was all about social media, but through the Pagdede Program, she learned of other educational sites that could help make her work as a teacher more productive and creative. Zainab has been linked to a celebrated creative teacher under the Career Clinic to learn more about how to be a creative educator.

Zainab hopes to build her school in the future, where she will deliver quality education to deprived communities in Northern Ghana.“Thank you to Plan International’s WVL team for funding the Assistance Hub to implement this life-changing program. I will use this knowledge to change the people around me and my community at large. God bless you.”
